Recent cultural activities by the Cultural Office, Embassy of P. R. China (hereinafter referred to as "the Office")

During the year 2004

In January:

The Office presented a photographic exhibition on Chinese Spring Festival in Pakistan during the visit of 30-member Chinese acrobatic troupe to Pakistan;

In February:

The Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Shan Baoxiang was invited to a stage drama festival organized by Rawalpindi Women's Post-Graduate College and presented prizes to the excellent performers;

The prize distribution ceremony for 2nd "Bridge of the Chinese Language" contest was held in the Chinese Language Department of National University of Modern Languages;

Two computers were given to Pakistan National Council of the Arts by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan;

The Office organized a film reception on Chinese culture where a documentary film Peking Opera was shown;

In March:

The Office organized a film reception on Chinese culture where a documentary film China was shown;

The Office participated in an annual fair by Islamabad Police on the occasion of "Police Festival" where Chinese traditional handworks were shown and sold;

The Office organized a film reception on Chinese culture, a documentary film The Spring Festival of Chinese People being shown;

In April:

The Office participated in a fair, organized by National University of Modern Languages on the occasion of "Spring Festival", to show and sell Chinese traditional handicrafts;

In collaboration with Rawalpindi Arts Council, the Office presented an a-week-long "Exhibition on Chinese Wax-prints and Paper-cuts" in Rawalpindi, the Minister for Information, Federal Government of Pakistan, and Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Zhang Chunxiang attending the opening ceremony;

A used color TV set, fax machine and tape recorder were given by the Office to Rawalpindi Arts Council;

In May:

The Cultural Counsellor, Mr. Shan Baoxiang, attended the closing ceremony of "the Cultural Festival" by a Rawalpindi elementary schoo;

The Cultural Counsellor, Mr. Shan Baoxiang, was invited to attend the trip briefing by Pakistan Administrative Staff College delegation to China;

The Cultural Counsellor, Mr. Shan Baoxiang, was invited to attend the 34th founding anniversary celebration of the Friendship Association, NWFP;

The "Bridge of the Chinese Language" World University Students' Contest on Chinese Language in Pakistan was held in the Chinese Department, National University of Modern Languages;

In June:

The Office organized a film reception on Chinese culture, a documentary film Symphonic Poems of China being shown;

In July:

The Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Shan Baoxiang attended a briefing by Pakistan Higher Education Commission (HEC) on the students to be sent to China for study by HEC;

The Office provided some Chinese traditional handicrafts to Marriotte Hotel for its "Xinjiang Food Festival";

In August:

The Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Shan Baoxiang attended an interview by Pakistan Higher Education Commission intended to select qualified students for their PhD degree studies in China;

A film reception entitled "Deng Xiaoping----The Soul linking with Unification of China" was given by the Office to All Pak-China Friendship Association;

In September:

In Collaboration with Rawalpindi Arts Council, the Office presented "A Beautiful China" photographic exhibition in Rawalpindi Arts Council;

A film reception was organized by the Office for Pakistani friends including the teachers and students from the Chinese Department NUML and some other friends, where two film documentary Four Seasons of China and Chinese Martial Arts were shown;

The Office provided some materials to several Pakistani media i.e. Pakistan Broadcasting Corp. (PBC) on Chinese culture and recent Chinese economic development;

The Office provided a few newly-made Chinese feature films to PTV and Islamabad Club and provided some relevant materials to Balochistan Times, PBC and other private radios for their special edition/programmes on the day of 55th founding anniversary of China on October 1st;

The Office provided Chinese cultural handicrafts to Islamabad Club for its "Chinese Food Festival";

In October:

The Cultural Counsellor Mr. Shan Baoxiang presented a lecture to the teachers and students of Rawalpindi Women's Post-Graduate College on "Mao Zedong and Chinese Revolution and Economic Construction" and after it a documentary film Four Seasons of China was shown to them;

The Office organized a quiz contest among Pakistani youths and friends on Chinese culture by means of paper test, and relevant prizes (for every participant as well as excellence performance makers of the contest) were also distributed in the later time;

A massive function was organized by Pak-China Friendship Association NWFP in Peshawar to celebrate the 55th founding anniversary of P. R. China;

The Office looked after the publicity-related work for the Chinese delegation headed by the State Councilor of China Mr. Tang Jiaxuan;

In December:

Invited by The Dawn, the Office attended the famous annual business fair (this year entitled "All about Lifestyle", in Convention Center) by the Dawn to show and sell Chinese handicrafts and books on Chinese culture;

In December:

The Cultural Counsellor of Chinese Embassy Mr. Shan Baoxiang was interviewed by the monthly magazine Personality at the Office.
