According to the announcement from the Immigration Department of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (hereinafter as HKSAR), the old form smart identity cards issued before 26 November 2018 will no longer be valid in two phases during 2025.

Phase I of the invalidation exercise covers holders of old form of smart identity cards born in 1970 or after whose old cards have become invalid on 12 May 2025. Phase II of the invalidation exercise will cover holders of old form of smart identity cards born in 1969 or before whose old cards will become invalid on 12 October 2025.

All HKSAR residents currently living in Pakistan who hold the old form of smart ID card are kindly advised to replace their cards with the new form before the relevant deadline.
