To further facilitate the development of imported food trade and ensure food safety, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China recently revised and issued the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Registration Administration of Overseas Production Enterprises of Imported Foods" (Order No.280 of the General Administration of Customs) and the accompanying implementation announcement (Announcement No.27 of 2026 of the General Administration of Customs). The relevant new regulations will come into effect on June 1, 2026.The revised Regulations have been carefully designed to ensure seamless integration with existing registration systems. Import food trade activities of the 96,000 registered food enterprises remain unaffected by the new regulations. Notably, 95% of registered enterprises can automatically renew their registrations, while those unable to do so now have their renewal application window extended from 3-6 months before expiration to 3-12 months. For new applicants, the process has been streamlined with simplified documentation requirements and the introduction of a "List-based Registration" fast-track mechanism. The aforementioned documents and interpretation materials are available for download on the official website of the Import and Export Food Safety Bureau of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (http://jckspj.customs.gov.cn/). Should any issues arise during the enterprise registration process, our institution will assist in contacting the Import and Export Food Safety Bureau of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China to provide necessary support, including consultation and training.
