On June 30, Minister Shi Yuanqiang of the Chinese Embassy attended the seminar themed “China’s GDI and the 5Es Framework”, hosted by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) of Pakistan, and delivered a keynote address. The event was also attended by Bilal Azhar Kayani, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue of Pakistan, and former Pakistani Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque, among others, who also spoke at the seminar.

Minister Shi noted that President Xi Jinping’s proposal of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) has further consolidated the global consensus on development and ensured that the fruits of development benefit people across countries. China stands ready to work with Pakistan, guided by the important consensus reached by the leaders of our two countries, to deeply implement the GDI, promote the alignment of our development strategies, support Pakistan’s economic and social development and improvement of people’s livelihoods, and accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.

Pakistani representatives stated that the GDI provides a Chinese proposal to overcoming global development dilemmas and brings new development opportunities to Pakistan and other countries. Pakistan should actively promote the alignment between the GDI and the “5Es” framework, work with China to jointly build an upgraded version 2.0 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and deliver greater benefits to the people of both countries.
